Role Summary
The Associate – SCM (Purchase & Stores) will be responsible for managing procurement, inventory, stores operations, logistics coordination, and compliance activities for the R&D facility. The role requires a strong understanding of R&D material requirements, laboratory consumables, packaging materials, vendor management, waste disposal processes, and regulatory compliance to ensure seamless support for research and development activities.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Manage end-to-end procurement activities for R&D chemicals, reagents, laboratory consumables, equipment, and packaging materials.
- Source and evaluate vendors based on quality, pricing, delivery timelines, and compliance requirements.
- Generate purchase requisitions, purchase orders, and coordinate with suppliers for timely deliveries.
- Negotiate commercial terms and maintain healthy vendor relationships.
- Track procurement budgets and optimize procurement costs.
Stores & Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records of chemicals, consumables, packaging materials, spare parts, and laboratory supplies.
- Monitor stock levels and ensure uninterrupted availability of critical R&D materials.
- Conduct periodic inventory audits and stock reconciliations.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and issuance of materials as per safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain material traceability and inventory documentation.
R&D Logistics Coordination
- Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics for R&D samples, chemicals, intermediates, and packaging materials.
- Manage domestic and international shipment documentation, where applicable.
- Ensure safe transportation and handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Coordinate with courier partners, freight vendors, and internal stakeholders for timely movement of materials.
Compliance & Regulatory Management
- Ensure adherence to EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) guidelines and laboratory compliance requirements.
- Maintain documentation related to material receipts, storage, transportation, and disposal.
- Support audits by maintaining accurate SCM and inventory records.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations related to chemical handling and storage.
Waste Management & Disposal
- Coordinate with approved vendors for disposal of laboratory waste, hazardous waste, chemical waste, and packaging waste.
- Maintain waste disposal records and statutory documentation.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and internal waste management procedures.
- Monitor waste disposal schedules and vendor performance.
Packaging Material Management
- Manage procurement and inventory of R&D-specific packaging materials.
- Understand compatibility requirements for chemical and sample packaging.
- Coordinate packaging requirements for sample dispatches and product evaluations.
- Ensure packaging materials meet safety and regulatory standards.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in SCM, Purchase, Stores, or Logistics within an R&D, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Specialty Chemical, Biotech, or Manufacturing environment.
- Experience handling laboratory consumables, chemicals, and R&D materials is preferred.
- Hands-on exposure to waste disposal processes and compliance requirements.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of R&D procurement and inventory management.
- Knowledge of laboratory consumables, chemicals, packaging materials, and logistics operations.
- Familiarity with hazardous material handling and waste disposal regulations.
- Understanding of EHS and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems, inventory management tools, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Good communication and stakeholder management abilities.
